Homemade Salami & Veg Pizza

Homemade Salami & Veg Pizza

I developed this recipe out of the family's love of pizza. As I wanted cut down of fat, I decided to try out my own ingredients, with the children's help. I started adding toppings that everyone was happy to eat. Once we tasted how delicious the pizzas turned out, we went on from there, trying out different ingredients at a time. We hope you enjoy trying them out and even adding toppings of your choice.

  • 1 packet thinly sliced Salami
  • 4 medium carrots
  • 2 large bell peppers (colours of your choice)
  • 2 Small onions
  • 400 g Mature Cheddar Cheese

Instructions

Peparation

  • Wash your hands thoroughly and dry with kitchen tissue
  • Chop up the onions and bell peppers into small cubes
  • Grate the carrots
  • Grate the cheese
  • Wash spinach and drain well

Preparing The Sauce

  • Empty the chopped onions into a clean pan
  • Add the chopped, tinned tomatoes and seasonings into the pan
  • (Watch out when adding salt as the stock powder contains a substantial amount of salt already).
  • Boil the mixture for 15 minutes, into a medium thick sauce
  • Keep checking to ensure it doesn’t burn

Preparing The Pizza Base

  • Add salt and oil
  • Have your cup of cool water ready
  • Make a little well in the middle of the flour
  • Add water little by little as you work through dough with one hand
  • Once everything comes together
  • Take it out of the pan, onto a clean worktop
  • Knead for at least 5 minutes or until the dough doesn’t stick to your hands anymore
  • Make sure you can break the dough apart easily ( It mustn't be elastic and stretchy because the pizza base may turn out tough)
  • You can add more flour if the dough feels  too soft.

Preparing The Pizza For Oven:

  • Preheat the oven on Gas Mark 6
  • Roll out the dough on a clean dry worktop
  • Place the rolled out dough on the roasting tray
  • And trim the edges if need be
  • Start by adding the cooked tomato sauce and spread it evenly to cover the base
  • Add spinach
  • Sprinkle grated carrots
  • Lay out the Salami
  • Sprinkle the mixture of onions, and bell peppers
  • Finally sprinkle the cheese
  • Sprinkle a bit of salt and pepper (optional)
  • Place in the oven at gas Mark 6
  • Bake for 45 minutes or until the cheese is golden brown
  • (Check after 35 minutes to ensure it is not baking too fast as you don’t want to end up with burnt top and raw pizza base)
  • Take out the pizza from oven
  • Cut and serve with your chosen fresh vegetable salads
  • Enjoy
